MAHALE MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARKMahale Mountains National Park on the shores of Lake Tanganyika-Tanzania
Mahale National Park in Western Tanzania is the best place in Africa to see chimpanzees in the wild and arguably the finest wildlife interaction experiences in the world.
Mahale Mountains National Park has an air of enchantment about it. No doubt in part thanks to its fascinating landscape of densely wooded rainforest, savannah, miombo woodland, and the mighty Lake Tanganyika – one of the oldest lakes in the world. A flourishing population of approximately 900 chimpanzees call the forest home. They are some of the last remaining wild troops on the continent.
- The park boasts over 355 bird species & about 900 chimpanzees
- The only place in the world where chimps & lions naturally co-exist
- One of the park’s main attractions is best experienced on foot
It is a fabulously remote and beautiful national park, which experiences very low visitor numbers. It is comprised of gorgeous forested mountains, beautiful beaches and a truly remarkable lake. As well as the awesome chimpanzee experience, activities include sailing, kayaking, swimming and snorkeling. The park is home to a couple of really superb camps.
