The migration has made its way south, heading for the short grassy plains of the Southern Serengeti. This is peak foaling season for zebras, and as we move into February you’ll see the arrival of half a million wildebeest calves. Ndutu, the southern concessions of the Serengeti, and the Ngorongoro Conservation area are the places to be.
The rains have hit and walls of water sweep across the savannah dumping millions of gallons onto the rich fertile soil. The landscape transforms and the game floods into the central area. Seronera is a moving mass of millions of animals, the Moru Kopjies are a hot spot, and as the season moves along on the Western Corridor, Grumeti plays host to the herds.
June is tricky to predict as the migration is rarely still for any length of time. We’re entering the dry season in the Serengeti and the herds begin to move north; up through the Grumeti, sometimes swinging back through central and up to Lobo, gearing up for Kenya. It’s a fascinating time of year and may be worth splitting your stay between the west or central parts of the Serengeti with the far north to hedge your bets.
Now is the time to be near the rivers and permanent water sources of the Mara. In the Serengeti, you need to be north in and around Kogatende, or across the river in the Lamai Wedge (river crossings here in July and August are almost guaranteed with multiple crossing sites to choose from). The predators of Kenya’s Mara are enjoying their seasonal glut, and the crocodiles are growing fat. One of the most dramatic events in the animal kingdom, it’s pure unadulterated drama.
Now, two million wildebeest and hundreds of thousand zebra, topi, eland and gazelle are firmly established in the Maasai Mara. Further south in the central Serengeti, the bush is dry and dusty. It’s an enormous expanse with just the scattered bones that litter the plains giving clues to the number seen here a couple of months prior.
Again, a couple of unpredictable months. When exactly are the herds going to move? Typically, the animals sense the rain coming to the south in November and begin making their way back into the Serengeti, passing through the Loliondo Game Controlled Area, down the eastern edge of the Serengeti, covering a vast area which includes a north-western slice of the Ngorongoro. The rains sweep up from the south, the zebra foals are born and the cycle begins once again.

Exclusive, authentic, and luxurious; this unique itinerary offers a complete immersion into Tanzania’s beautiful wilderness. Dramatic wildlife roams around your secluded mobile camps and 9 days of safari activities offer a very individualized Tanzania safari experience, especially as you enjoy private sections of the Tarangire and the Serengeti National Parks.
FLY BETWEEN KEY LOCATIONS, TO REDUCE LONG DRIVES & ENHANCE TIME ON SAFARI
Take advantage of three internal flights, allowing us to cover a vast territory without long, dusty overland drives—we maximize your time with wildlife instead!
Rather than subject you to long, dusty drives between camps, we have included three separate flights—this is a tremendous advantage when it comes to adding more time on safari with wildlife, and less time bouncing around in a vehicle on rough roads. Compare itineraries carefully: we doubt you’ll find such transportation advantages on most safaris!
Upon arrival into Arusha, you are met by an A2A Safari representative and transferred to your lodge, an oasis of luxury set on a peaceful coffee estate. Enjoy the remainder of the day at your leisure.
This morning, fly to Tarangire where you are met by your local driver-guide and transferred to your exclusive lodge. Begin your safari en route as you pass through Tarangire National Park on the way to your accommodations. Your 9,800-acre private land concession lies nestled between the immense savannahs of Tarangire National Park and the bird-rich waters of Lake Manyara, providing a safe migratory corridor for elephants and other wildlife.
Today, explore all the lodge has to offer with expertly guided game drives on foot or horseback. Stretch out and relax in the lodge’s lounge, library, sundeck, swimming pool and spa. Enjoy a private picnic, unwind in the dining room, or watch the sunset over dinner on the shores of Lake Manyara.
After breakfast, transfer to Manyara airstrip for your flight to Mwiba. On arrival, you are met by a local guide and transferred to your next safari lodge, a sophisticated hideaway set on the banks of the Arugusinyai River in an exclusive concession adjacent to Serengeti National Park.
Today, immerse yourself in the majesty of Mwiba Private Concession with a game drive exploring this exquisite, 51,000-acre wildlife reserve. Later, mix things up with a bush walk or a cultural excursion to the local village.
This morning, fly to your next exclusive safari accommodation, a 1920’s-inspired, permanent tented camp located on the golden plains of the Serengeti’s Singita Grumeti Reserve.
Climb aboard your safari vehicle for one final game drive. Today affords a final chance to sight the crafty species that may have eluded you on this epic journey. Keep your eyes trained for cheetahs, wildebeests, bat-eared foxes, black rhinos, Maasai giraffes, lions, elephants, buffalos, leopards, zebras and rare Colobus monkeys.
Fly from the camp’s airstrip to Arusha, where you spend time at leisure in your reserved dayroom. Later, transfer to the airport for your international departure.

Fly to the spice island of Zanzibar. Situated off the northern coast of Tanzania and surrounded by the tranquil Indian Ocean, this tropical island is the perfect conclusion to any safari. The Zanzibar Serena Hotel, our home for the next three (3) nights, is located in Stone Town, overlooking the Indian Ocean.
The day begins with breakfast and a spectacular view over the Indian Ocean. A walking tour is the best way to experience the Old Town, which exists today much as it did in the days when the “Isle of Spices” was a great trading centre known the world over for spices, timber and slaves. As we move away from the market, the winding streets grow serene and mysterious with whitewashed houses, ornately carved wooden doors and balconies studded with brass. We visit the Zanzibar Museum and the Old Fort. After lunch we experience an afternoon of exploring the plantations where cinnamon, cardamom and strong, flavorful Arabic coffees are grown. And, of course, we see the cloves—the gold of Zanzibar—the world’s finest and most desired spice. Overnight Zanzibar Serena Hotel.
There are few places in the world where the red Colobus monkey can be found. Here is one of them. After breakfast we travel across the island through quaint villages and lush vegetation to the enchanting Jozani Forest. We enjoy the Jozani Forest where we have wonderful opportunities to see Old World monkeys leap acrobatically throughout the arboreal canopy in troops of up to a hundred creatures. Overnight Zanzibar Serena Hotel.
Today brings a farewell to the island of Zanzibar. Depending on your departure time, you may have time for one last trip (optional) to the marketplace for that fantastically carved teakwood chest or supply of intensely scented pomanders as a reminder of our sojourn in this ageless Swahili paradise.
Fly to your tented campsite in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. Visit small villages in the surrounding area. The next day, set out for an up-close encounter with endangered mountain gorillas.
Visit our partner Visa Central for convenient, one-stop visa and passport processing.
CLIMATE
Eastern Africa, classically presented as a major dry climate anomaly region in the otherwise wet equatorial belt, is a transition zone between the monsoon domains of West Africa and the Indian Ocean. Its complex terrain, unequaled in the rest of Africa, results in a huge diversity of climatic conditions that steer a wide range of vegetation landscapes, biodiversity and human occupations.
